Complete Daily Review Star this Commitment
Week 4 of 4

palmer006 commits to:
Complete my self-evaluation daily, and from a place of self-love and self-acceptance. The idea is to see if I can keep this practice alive and bringing me back on track daily versus seeing it devolve into an empty ritual. I should stick with it for at least 4 weeks to see if it can really catch on as a habit that works and push through initial resistance.

I have switched this to weekly and replaced it with a 45 minute nightly routine, 30 of which is recorded, of brushing teeth, getting everything ready for next day, journaling for 15 min, then reading. This still feels a bit rushed, but I'm hoping with practice I can make maximum use of it. I'd rather not 'have' to live in this kind of efficiency mindset, but I think it's the only way I can work the kind of hours I need to to carve out a healthy financial future for myself, pursue community, and pursue growth in all the areas I'm just too damn excited/inspired to pursue that I can't give up any one of them without feeling like something important is missing (Reweaving, Small Groups, Toastmasters, Men's Movement, Daily Practices, nurturing friendships, Martial Arts). Toastmasters is the easiest to cut, but it also requires the smallest time commitment and is the one activity where I'm primarily practicing a skill I'm naturally good at.

Came to a conclusion at the end of this journey: what I need most at the end of the day is to release tension and get a good night's rest. How best to do that is an open question. I like the checklist as it serves as a reminder of what practices put me at my best (as sometimes, incredibly, I can forget about some of them for months at a time and then be like 'oh yeah!' I'm missing that), but daily is overkill. Weekly or biweekly will be best, though that means a new calendar event.

I got out of my regular habits altogether for several days, which is fine, I don't want dead ritual, but as a general rule discipline helps me and I allowed a light head cold to excuse having a home prepared to host. Thankfully my guests were gracious, and I extend myself self-forgiveness for this, but I blew the suffering of the cold way out of proprotion, and I link this back to not keeping my daily practices, most importantly morning meditation/centering. The check-in thing I like, but is less essential.
