My goal to practice self-development for at least 30 minutes a day was still successful despite the circumstances. I did have to make some changes, but everything worked out. I would still consider this to be progress made towards my ultimate goal. My goal for week 4 was to listen to podcasts.

On Saturday I was able to practice self-development in the morning as usual. However, on Sunday I had made plans to drive up north to Chicago to spend time with family and friends. I am originally from the suburbs, but have been traveling once a month due to my Grandmother’s progression of Alzheimer’s. For Sunday, I ended up listening to a podcast in my car on my way up north. That podcast was under an hour long, so I did get over 30 minutes on that particular day. On Monday and Wednesday, I was able to listen to the podcasts during the evening as planned before I fell asleep. They were extremely helpful for me especially with some difficult days. The podcasts allowed me to unwind and focus my mind elsewhere. On Tuesday, I listened to another in my car when I was going to meet up with my friend. When I was heading back to Carbondale on Thursday I listened to another. Some of my favorites were ‘Brené Brown’ by Design Matters with Debbie Millman, ‘Be Afraid and Do It Anyway with Brené Brown’ by How To Human, Eckhart Tolle: Free Yourself From Anxiety, Stress and Unhappiness’ by Oprah’s Super Soul Conversations, and ‘Feeling Emotionally Drained? This Might Be Why…’ by Pick The Brain Podcast.

Overall, I believe that I have been successful reaching my goal. My reasons for wanting to accomplish this goal was because I wanted to make myself more of a priority, I wanted to learn more about myself, and I feel that it is important to never stop improving as an individual. I believe that I was successful because of my referee, stickk, and this course as a whole. My referee has proven to be very beneficial for me during my entire time in this class. My friend holding me accountable was definitely something that I have needed in the past, but I had never tried something like that before when I have wanted to accomplish any goal.

I am happy that I have been able to stick with this and that I have continued to make progress regardless of some setbacks and life in general. I have realized that a mix of self-development practices would be the most beneficial for me. For example, Pinterest, YouTube, and Podcasts in rotation. I feel like it would allow me to have something to look forward to and prevents boredom by switching it up. Moving forward, I will most likely choose two or three days a week to practice it.

My goal to practice self-development for at least 30 minutes a day was another successful week. I have continued to make progress and my overall plan has been working out well, so I have not had to change anything. My goal for week 3 was to find prompts on Pinterest pertaining to any type of self-development or self-improvement. With this I found various writing prompts that encouraged me to focus on what I am content with in my life, what I would want to improve on, how I’d like to improve myself as a person, etc. I believe that individuals should constantly work on improving themselves.

On the weekend, I was able to practice self-development in the morning. Again, it was a good way to start off my days. I just felt like I had accomplished a lot even if I was simply working towards my overall goal. During the week, I was able to practice it in the evening. It was therapeutic to just write down my answers to the questions each night and actually look at it on paper instead of having everything in my head. I used to journal several years ago but stopped because I just never kept up with it. Of course, with this class holding me accountable it has worked out well and I will consider getting back into it even a few nights a week.

My referee has continued to be helpful for me. She has texted me to make sure that I am keeping up with my goal. Her accountability has proven to be beneficial week after week. I shared one particular writing prompt that I did because I knew she would enjoy it. She told me that she did find it helpful and it gave her time to focus on herself, which can sometimes be difficult since she is a single mother to a six-year-old boy.

Overall, I am happy that I have been able to keep up with my goal and am proud of the progress that I have made. I enjoy Pinterest in general, so that made this week easier in that sense. I feel like YouTube and Pinterest have ‘tied’ in terms of which one has been my favorite for self-development. They both have different aspects that I enjoy. However, I do know that this week has allowed me to dig deeper into my mind than any other week.

My goal to practice self-development for at least 30 minutes per day went well this week. I feel like I have continued to make progress towards my goal and my plan has worked out so far. I have used my setbacks from last week as motivation for this week even though the reasons were out of my control. It encouraged me to move forward and make the progress that I have from this week. My goal for week 2 was to watch YouTube videos on self-help or self-improvement.

On the weekend, I was able to practice it in the morning due to the schedule that I have created prior. Again, I feel like it was a good way to start off my day. During the week, I was able to practice it in the evening, again, due to the schedule. It was something that I looked forward to at the end of every day. It allowed me to wind down and relax as well. Some of my favorite videos that I have watched were Ted Talks. I was originally introduced to them on YouTube from seeing a video by Brené Brown. She has been a huge inspiration to me, so I watched one of her videos again just because I felt that it was appropriate for the week. I have gotten much more into watching various Ted Talks in general, so this worked out perfectly!

My referee has continued to be helpful for me. I liked how she has continued to hold me accountable because I feel like it encourages me more. I shared some YouTube videos with her and she enjoyed watching them as well. Her favorite one was mine as well and she felt that she could relate to it. Again, she just encouraged me to continue to practice self-development and she felt that I was making progress as well.

Overall, I am proud of the progress that I have continued to make towards my goal. I feel like this week has been very successful. I enjoy YouTube videos in general, so this has definitely been my favorite week! Personally, I believe that this method works better for me than simply reading articles online. I had a lot more enjoyment out of it. I am excited to see how next week’s method will turn out compared to this week’s method.

My goal to practice self-development for at least 30 minutes per day has been going pretty well for the most part. I feel like I have made progress, as well as had a couple of setbacks. Self-development to me includes any form of self-help or self-improvement that I am able to find depending on my particular goal for that week. My goal for week 1 is to read articles online.
On the weekend, I was able to practice it in the morning according to the schedule I had made that week prior. I felt like it was a good way to start my day off and continue the rest of the day knowing I had accomplished a goal early on those mornings. During the week, according to that same schedule, some days I practiced it in the morning and other days were scheduled for the evening. Monday and Tuesday went fairly well. I read articles during the evening and felt like I was sticking to my plan. On Wednesday and Thursday, I had setbacks and was not able to read any articles. On Wednesday I had planned to practice self-development in the morning, however, when I woke up I was not feeling too well due to chronic illnesses and decided that I would simply do it that evening. Later that evening I still was not feeling well, so I decided to skip it. On Thursday I had planned to practice it in the morning. Again, I was still not feeling well that whole day, so I decided to skip that day as well. I felt bad that I could not follow through with my goal on the very first week because at times my health can seep into every aspect of my life, but I realized that I needed to give my body a break and I acknowledged the fact that I did read articles on the days that I was able to. I also acknowledged the fact that I have dealt with this for years and all I can to is continue to move forward in this goal like I do in my everyday life. On Friday, I was able to read an article in the morning and much like the past weekend I felt like it was a good way to start off my day.
My referee has been helpful for me so far. I have shared a few articles with her throughout the week, as I felt like they were good for anyone to read. She seemed to have liked them and appreciated the fact that I shared them with her. She also encouraged me to continue to practice my self-development.
Overall, I am proud of the progress that I have made despite having a couple of setbacks. I believe that the reason for my success this week is because this goal is still fairly new and exciting, which in turn motivates me more to continue to do this. I also like how stickk has been holding me accountable, as well as my referee because it makes following through with the goal a lot easier.
