French for 10 hours weekly Star this Commitment
Week 11 of 11

wkueshner commits to:
I commit to learning French for 10 hours a week using a space repetition system, distributed practice, and frequent practice testing with a focus on written and verbal comprehension. I further commit to evaluating the direction of my learning every week upon completing this report, and to measuring myself against the sorts of questions posed by CLEP exam study guides/similar stimulus material.

I commit to continue 10 hours a week up until I am prepared to score 65+ on the CLEP French exam

Eagerly keeping well above my goal with 14 hours a week. I have shifted to mostly listening with some continuous though decreasing dabbling in vocabulary expansion. Now I have a lot more focus on creating and understanding sentences, both written and oral. In other words, there is a shift happening from learning the words themselves to learning the relationships between these words. Seems like progress to me!

Very good. Hitting 14 hours a week consistently, and just breached 60 hours total over 30 days. That puts me at exactly 2 hr/day average.

Good news is that I may not have to do this nearly as long as anticipated—I may be ready to take the UK French placement exam, as opposed to the CLEP exam, and pass out of four semesters of coursework as early as three to four weeks from now (before winter break begins). If this occurs, I plan on making this commitment targeted towards math/economics/math-Econ self-study (I already have a personal commitment of >1 hour a day of this).

Good practice methods, but currently not sure how to optimally proceed. I need to circle back to the French CLEP exam material (maybe buy a study guide book) and understand where my biggest learning gaps are. Vocabulary and verb conjugation practice both seem like good default study priorities, with reading and listening as a growing priority.

Should also figure out what raw score translates to at 66+ so I can gauge how much I don’t have to know.
