My goal for this week was to a) text Dad before going to bed and on waking up and b) stick to a schedule of: bed at 12am, up at 5am, 3 hour nap during the day. Results: Biggest lesson learned - committing verbally to someone is not quite enough accountability. It helps tremendously, but it's not enough when it's early in the morning or late at night and I'm struggling to think clearly and rationally. I need to write down EXACTLY what my goal is, and most importantly, WHY I am committing to accomplishing that goal. I struggled a bit with this goal and many other times when I've committed to goals like this. This happens because committing to a new habit just because it seems like a good thing to do is not enough to get me over the hump. I need to have a good, deeply felt reason that is going to motivate me more than Resistance is going to fight back. Anyways, I did pretty good overall. I WAY overslept on back to back days, but only the first was my fault - I tried to go back to sleep and ended up sleeping the day away. The second day my phone died so I didn't have an alarm. Although I didn't stick to my goals by the letter, I got up early more than half of the days and prevented my schedule from getting flipped around (which was one of my biggest concerns), so in general a success. |
