Week five was the most difficult of all! Not that I haven't seen my hard work lead to success, of course. This week's problem was that my sisters (as mentioned in week four) were in town, and there was plenty of eating out at various restaurants, and not so much inspiration in terms of working out!
As my sisters arrived, I agreed with myself to make sure that I attended the gym four times over the course of the week, allowing only two "cheat" meals -- which could include a, perhaps, unhealthy dinner or small desert. Other than that, I stuck to my strict low-carb, calorie-conscious diet with plenty of exercise. My sisters leaving to head back to New York was a bit saddening, but I did find solace in the fact that -- through tougher circumstances -- I was able to meet my lost pound goal this week, despite the higher hurdles to clear!
I've been sort of amazed at how this behavioral contract and stickK journal logging has helped aid in my weight-loss challenge. It's not something I expected at the outset, but I'm glad it's had a positive impact on myself and my life. |

My fourth week was extremely hectic. It was the last week of work before spring break and my sisters came to visit. I knew starting this week, I would have to push myself to a) go the gym and b)choose the correct foods to eat.
With my sisters visiting, I knew there would be days that I would be faced with eating various foods that were not on my low-carb plan. Also with my week being busy with work related activities, I hardly had time to go to the gym. I only went to the gym 3 times this week, but made sure to choose exercises that burned a lot of calories in a short amount of time.
I believe this week pushed myself internally. I had to constantly remind myself that I had a goal to attain and I would feel great once that goal was accomplished. I was able to lose another pound this week thanks to my inner voice to keep exercising and eating correctly. It was a struggle, but I believe this week proved that when I set a goal, even with obstacles, I am motivated to keep going. |

Week three of this commitment journal proved the most challenging yet. Remember, my commitment was to lose at least one pound per week, totaling no less than five pounds lost in five weeks.
The reason for this difficulty was simple: work has become quite busy, and my masters program is approaching the part where it's imperative that I crack down on some of the end-of-year projects and papers due to earn strong grades in the class.
One of the trickiest things I've learned, so far, is how to strike a perfect balance between a healthy nutritional plan/regular exercise, and thrusting it into my daily routine -- particularly so when the man hours of this daily routine are limited due to assignments in my masters program or general teaching tasks.
This week, I did manage to accomplish the one pound lost goal, but it was more so due to an excellent, calorie-restricted nutritional plan, ripe with vegetables at just about every meal, and less so to do with regular exercise -- I only managed to run three times this week. Good enough, but not ideal! |

My second week went even better than the first!
I suspect a large part of my improvement this week -- I managed to drop close to two pounds during this interval -- had to do with my body positively reacting to the substantive changes I have made, which include such a more significant focus on a healthy diet and regular exercise.
On the diet side, many of my meals this week were chicken-based, often stir-frying with vegetables or being complemented by a side salad. It's amazing how many different ways you can make chicken -- it's a food that's healthy enough to sustain you for long periods of time, and diverse enough to satisfy your taste buds.
Exercising this week was really a lot of long-distance running. I tried to run about three miles a day some days I feel a touch under the mark, some days I exceeded that goal.
Overall, I am still on track to accomplish what I have set out for, though I know that maintaining such a rigorous balance for an extended period of time will remain a challenge. |
