I commit to:
Unfortunately, I have very little time for listening to all the CDs I own, reading all the books I own and playing with all of the electronics gear I've accumulated over the years. So this commitment is to give up "buying" as entertainment until December 25. I sort of wince at not being able to go into Atomic Books or Normals and buy myself things. The solution? Trips to those stores will only involve buying gifts for people I care about! So I still get to enjoy shopping on occasion, but for a

Commitment Journal what's this?

still good on this. i still think about stuff i want all the time and i'm making a list for when this is over. still it's good to be reminded that it's more time i lack than stuff, and i'd rather spend my time playing with my current stuff than shopping for new stuff...

still haven't bought any extraneous goodies for myself

25 Sep 2010 03:16 PM

still good on this one. i admit i often think of things i might like to buy/try. a kindle. a visit to the book/record store to buy stuff for myself. download songs from amazon. but like most middle class americans i have a ton of stuff that is underutilized. so stickk is helping me experiment with a change in my consumer habits.

still good on this one. this commitment goes in the keeper pile. i.e. i could see myself renewing it after the end. it's a good one for simplifying life.

still good on this one i think. haven't been buying stuff for people as much as i should! but that's a secondary endpoint for this commitment i think

this is another one that is working pretty well. aside from giving myself a little break from it while at powell's city of books in portland, i've kept to it, and its helped me stickk to not impulse buying books and magazines that i later feel guilty about cuz i have so many unread ones sitting around

this has been a pretty good one. there's definitely more temptation here as i catch myself frequently thinking about how pleasurable it might be to pick up some new book or music, etc. but really, as i noted at the outset, there's plenty of novel experience to be had in my current collection, or in free alternatives such as the library.

i gave myself an exception while i was traveling on vacation. so far i've stuck to this one apart from that one exception

13 Aug 2010 04:22 PM

In addition, I made sure to buy a couple of books I've loved for my buddy Greg and his wife-to-be Nell

To be honest, I did buy myself a couple of books this week. BUT I am on vacation, so I am giving myself a pass.
