One of the Best Things I've Ever Done

February 8

Although I have always been active and never have had a weight problem, I had foot surgery last December that laid me up a lot longer than expected. I couldn't exercise, my diet got worse, and had to buy clothes in a larger size for the first time ever.

I knew my doctor would allow me to begin running again the first of July so when I read an article about stickK in early June, I knew it was what I needed to do to change. School was out so my stress level was considerably lowered and I knew it would be easier to eat correctly and I had the time to do more physical activity. I pledged enough money per week that it would hurt and I picked an anti-charity because I didn't want to excuse my eating desserts thinking that I was making a donation to a worthy cause. I've never considered presidential libraries to be a worthy charity so knowing that a certain presidential library would get my hard-earned money was reason enough to keep me on the straight and narrow!

Putting a contract on myself was one of the best things I've ever done. I've always been goal-oriented and my contract helped me. The bonus was I lost 15 lbs in 8 weeks.  Since school started I've put off exercising more days than not and it doesn't help my stress level, my weight, or my sleeping well so I'm putting another contract on myself and for longer than 8 weeks!

A happy stickKer

Fitness had always been a huge part of my life. I started working in the restaurant business almost 4 years ago. Between the crazy schedule and continual access to all the wrong foods, I've struggled for 2 years trying to get into a routine again. Amazing how unexpected life circumstances throw you when you think you've got it under control. Congrats on the weight loss and keep it up for the next round.

How did you lose the weight? Just by running? I, too, had foot issues and multiple surgeries. I am just recovering from my last surgery now. I am trying to break back into working out slowly and not push myself for fear of prolonging my recovery. Have any advice?

Wow! Your story is a lot like mine. The reason I put on weight is due to the foot surgery *I* had. I was laid up for at least six months. Not only was there weight gain, but my muscle tone really took a dive. Now I'm getting back in shape, and stickK will help me do it!

I'm really delighted to see someone else who chose to make a significant stake with an anti-charity and credits their success to that choice. I think that's what's really going to get my ass in gear this time.
