Real-World Experiment, Day #23
Star this Commitment
wrkinprogrss commits to:
concentrate on real world concerns and constructive actions until at least 6:30pm, today. I will spend 30 minutes outside, 30 minutes in gentle exercise, 30 minutes in thinking &/or writing about sustainability possibilities in the R/B/N/T books and clowning, and 15 minutes in Doing Nothing meditation before I consume or write any fiction, today. I will either put rice on to cook or cook homefries and sausage and broccoli romanesco before consuming or writing more than 30 minutes of fiction.
I will limit my consumption and writing of fiction to half an hour between 6:30pm and 7:00pm, and one additional hour starting no earlier than 8:00pm and ending no later than 10:32pm. I will set ending-time alarms before starting to consume fiction. I also commit to trying to notice any feelings or situations that immediately precede any cravings for escape into fiction, at any time when those may occur. I commit to turning off the computer and starting preparations for bed by 10:32pm, sharp, and I commit to be in bed with the lights out by 11:00pm.

| I met most of the parts of this commitment, but was 15 minutes late in turning off the computer, and 30 minutes late in turning off the lights for the night. Factors in this were that I forgot that Chronager doesn't turn off the computer until 11:15 on Thursday nights, and I was in the midst of reading about a fictional emotional crisis at 10:30, and didn't quite have the will power to turn it off immediately. I was in bed by 11:15, half an hour after turning off the computer, but took an extra 15 minutes to write in my journal, to help compose my mind. So I think I'm going to count this day as a failure, but a pretty good one, with useful learnings/reminders. | |
