Fighter Pilot Drinking Regimen Star this Commitment
Week 27 of 27

JWhitney commits to:
I commit to responsible drinking decisions! Regrettably, my previous behavior risked everything important to me and, worst, put others in danger. In April, I toured the USS Midway and was lucky enough to meet a few retired fighter pilots. Naval Officers must display the highest standards of personal Honor, Courage, and Commitment, which on leave include: 0 drinks if driving, 1 drink/hr max, 2 drinks/consecutive day max, 3 drinks/non-consecutive day max. This seems like a good minimum standard.

Here I am, basically writing in a notebook to you every week that you probably won't read, and... you message me! I'm so excited to hear about what's going on in your life. I need to get off this and message you back :)

BTW, just finishing a week-long work trip to Mississippi and had water or Coke every night when the five of us went out to eat, except New Year's Eve, when I had 1.5 beers. I feel like I stickKed with the goal and established a responsible new habit. Now, time make some other improvements (and I want your feedback)!

I stumbled across a book of poems and a great song last week that both reminded me of you! It was uncanny. I should send them to you, but maybe I shouldn't.

A friend asked if I had tried a new local beer, which I hadn't, and they responded: "I haven't seen you have any drinks in quite some time." It's good to see the effort noticed although I don't consider it much of an effort anymore!

I met Matt and Parker at a bar in Bangor yesterday for lunch (I had water) for their annual Christmas shopping trip. Matt sees many of his middle school students not properly dressed for winter so he recruits a few of us to fill shopping carts with jackets, ski pants, fleece tops, hats, gloves, scarfs, and boots for K-8 kids at his school. We managed to get a lot but I still worry about the kids that will go without. Matt says he often sees kids wearing the warm layers around the school though and I'm so proud of him for organizing it.
