Stickk post #2
- Positivity
- I think that money affects happiness. No money can not buy everything but it does allow for more opportunities. We do not know what a child goes through when they are not at school and the baggage that they have to carry. We need to show patience, understanding, and most importantly love kids where they are. School can sometimes be the only safe space our students have. A positive impact foster a positive attitude and can even sometimes regulate emotions and break down behaviors.
- On difficult days, how do I keep showing up? You can not let one kid ruin your whole mood because then that will affect all of your other students. You also should dwell on the past. Treat every day with a clean slate because if I am still holding on to what happened yesterday none of us will move forward.
- I could some very useful strategies in this chapter. One that particularly caught my eye was the one about the acts of kindness. My students require modeling to properly learn how to interact with others around then so if they see kindness hopefully they will also learn kindness.

A) Relational Mindset
B) I became a teacher because I wanted to change the stigma that a person with a disability will amount to nothing and will need to be taken care of their entire life. These people do not need to be put into a box and because they have so much more potential than that. The only thing holding them down is the wall that other people put up for them. I want to break down those wall and show them how far they can go and pull them to reach their fullest potential. I know how it feels to have no one believe in me and that I was a hopeless case and I'm not going to let my students ever feel that way because I will always be there to advocate for them and support them no matter what.
C) How do I ensure my students feel welcomed, loved and cared about? I greet my students individually every day when they come in and try and get a read of how they are feeling since they can not tell me. If I think they are feeling sad or just not like themselves then I will do what I can to make them feel better. Normally with the current group of students that I have if they are feeling down all they want are some extra snuggles and I am more than happy to give that to them. How can I better connect with students' families and build good relationships with them? I normally try and tell the parents that we are on the same team. I am just as much here for you as I am for your child and once me and you are on the same page we can work together to help your child to the best of our ability. Normally parents of special needs individuals feel very isolated and when they see they have you as support then you really she the child start to flourish.
D) Personalized learning is one strategiey that I am really good at. My lowest student can not match his colors and my highest student is learning how to read. I have to figure out a way to cater one lesson and fit the level and the needs of all 8 of my boys. My secret weapon to all of my students though is love. once the student is comfortable with you and knows you love and care about them they transform. Most students don't trust easy and probably for good reason so if you can build those relationships and they know you are going to pick them up when they fall then they are ready to start learning. They can't learn anything if their basic needs are not met and love is one of them.
