VOID CONTRACT NOTICE: With embarrassment, sorrow, and regret, I confess that the past several reports of success have been lies. In all likelihood, so will be the remaining reports of success.

On July 1, 2011, I wrote up this and three other commitment contracts (148289, 148297, 148300). In a fit of wild ambition, I chose enormous financial penalties for failure in any of them: $400 per week. I hungered for self-improvement that day, but my eyes were bigger than my stomach. Telling the truth to this website's machinery would mean running out of money to live. To anyone who believed I was succeeding in these goals, I apologize.

I wonder what it says about me, but the only current contract I'm honestly fulfilling is not about self-improvement, but about revenge (140993). At least I'm sticking to something, anyway.

Of the four momentous contracts I made on July 1, 2011, this one is taking the most time to actualize. More than the others, this one forces me to take responsibility for numerous choices I had previously avoided. By necessity, I measure progress by the week, not by the day, towards a guest-friendly home.

Sometimes I'm too adaptable for my own good. For more than a year, I did without a bed in my new apartment, sleeping on my bedroom floor. But a neighbor is moving out today, and I got his bed for a very reasonable price. I've also bought from him an easy chair (ugly and tattered but comfortable) and a desk-bookcase ensemble.

I've lived in my current apartment for more than thirteen months. Procrastinator that I am, I'm still running to catch up on furnishing it with some very basic items. Today, I went to Bed, Bath & Beyond to get two small wastebaskets, one each for the bedroom and bathroom. Meanwhile, I haven't yet fully liberated my kitchen counters and living room floor from piles of garbage.
