Eat healthier Star this Commitment
Week 5 of 5

sdparsley commits to:
I commit to eating healthier on a daily basis. I commit to cutting out overly processed foods with preservatives and substituting healthier snack and meal options. I will cook at least three nights per week and allow one cheat day per week. My commitment will be measured by observing the nutritional value and ingredients list of each food item to make sure I am avoiding unhealthy food options. Meals will be written down and recorded.

This being a holiday week, my commitment to my goal slightly fell. I did fairly well Sunday and Monday. I went to the store, bought groceries, and ate relatively healthy meals. Monday night for dinner I ate a salad for dinner. Tuesday is when my commitment started decreasing. We had a pitch-in for work for Thanksgiving, so not only did I eat huge portions, but I also ate a lot of unhealthy foods (cookies, pies, candy, etc). Wednesday for lunch I ate leftovers and then I ate out for dinner. I had a chicken sandwich but opted for grilled chicken as opposed to breaded. Thursday being Thanksgiving I also ate a lot of unhealthy options and a lot of them. My meals Friday and Saturday consisted of leftovers. I am planning this week to better follow through with my commitment now that the holiday has passed.

I did fairly well sticking to my goal this week, however, i did not do as well this weekend. Through the week i went to the store and bought healthy items to pack in my lunch and make for dinner. I didnt eat out and i snacked on a lot of produce as opposed to less healthy options. This weekend not only did I eat out a lot, but I also did not choose very healthy options. Im hoping for a better week next week.

This week I have done well staying committed to my goal. During the week, I cooked for every meal. I cooked two out of the five nights and brought the leftovers for lunch and ate them for dinner as well. I did eat out this weekend, however, I chose healthier options. I went to one of my favorite restaurants and instead of ordering my usual, mac and cheese, I ordered grilled chicken. I did allow myself one cheat meal this weekend. I am overall proud of the progress I have been making, particularly cooking healthier options as opposed to eating out. I still have a lot of work towards my goal. I would like to start purchasing and consuming more produce than I have the past 3 weeks. However, I feel I am making sufficient progress.

It has not quite been a week since I started my custom goal, but I feel I am making slow progress. While I have not made a complete transition from overly processed foods to healthier, raw options, I am taking slow steps necessary to end at my goal. A rather large step i'd like to make in completing my goal is to eat out less, as eating out typically results in my eating less healthy options. However, within the past week, if I have eaten out I have chosen healthier options. For example, I didn't make it to the store this weekend and had to buy my lunch yesterday. I opted to buy a salad as opposed to other options. I also am becoming more conscious about my food choices as I am making them, which is also a big step for me. I went to the store today and purchased raw fruits and vegetables, chicken breast, and other minimally processed food items. For snacks, instead of purchasing chips (my weakness) I instead chose multigrain pita chips, tortilla chips and hummus. I am hoping as the weeks pass that I will keep making small steps to end reach and maintain my overall goal.
