I accomplished my goal again this week of flossing once each day for seven days. I am down to one floss container (originally I was keeping one by my toothbrush and by my nightstand lamp to remind me to floss before turning off the lights in case it hadn't been done yet). So my only floss container is in the bathroom, and I left a small piece of paper saying FLOSS on it next to the lamp. One night I saw the note and realized I hadn't flossed yet so had to get out of bed and go to the bathroom to floss. Getting out of a comfy, warm bed at night is definitely aversive to me, so I have been more motivated to floss right after brushing teeth to avoid that consequence in the future!

I've had another successful week--flossed each day all seven days. I really like seeing that the amount of money at stake decreasing as I successfully complete each week. For example, initially 60 dollars was at stake, but now only 45 dollars is at stake because I had three successful weeks. I have been rewarding myself with my Starbucks drink each week for success with flossing but the reinforcement is quite removed from the behavior. In fact, because while I'm at Starbucks I spend time working on school work, I think it has become more reinforcing for doing school work than the flossing. But checking in each week on stickk.com and seeing that I saved another five dollars from being charged does seem to influence my behavior.

Still going strong! In fact, I am finding it more difficult to remember to log onto stickk.com to indicate that I have kept my goal, than I do the actual keeping of the goal. I am still trying to remember to leave my floss out in sight by my toothbrush, but I also feel like it is becoming a effectively becoming a habit paired with toothbrushing. When I am done with toothbrushing I have started immediately reaching for the floss. So, last week, I was able to meet my goal of flossing once each day.

Module 6 journal entry
So far I have performed this behavior one time each day, which is my goal. I find that it is helpful to have my floss container visible when I go to brush my teeth each night. One night I did forget to floss, but while in bed saw another floss container on my bedside table so I got out of bed again to floss. Because I did 7 days straight last week I bought myself a latte at Starbucks, per my behavioral contract. I do find that the potential loss of money if I don't meet my goal seems to be on my mind more strongly than the desire to get a Starbucks drink. But the two together do seem to motivate me enough to floss each day, even when needing to get out of bed to perform the behavior for example.
