I've done well with my commitment this week, with no instances of nail biting so far. Things have been busier than usual with work and school, and I have caught myself a couple of times this week about to break my commitment. I had forgotten to bring a pair of clippers or file with me when I leave the house a couple times, so I am double checking my bag before I leave this house now, since I noticed that I was catching and stopping myself a lot more often when I wasn't able to smooth out any snags in the moment - the same snag would trigger me over and over until I was able to take care of it. Once the snag or rough spot is gone it's a lot easier to keep my commitment. I haven't had a chance to use my gift cards that I've earned yet - as I said above, things have been very busy, and I decided that I want to spend them on something that is more expensive, so I will need to combine my gift cards to get it.

I've been doing well with not biting my nails - I was successful last week and have been successful so far this week. I forgot my hand lotion and cuticle balm this week at my office, and have been working at school sites pretty much all the time, so I haven't been able to use it and have developed some hangnails - which I picked at until I was able to use some nail clippers to remove them, but it did not lead me to biting my nails, so that is good! I was able to get the lotion and balm from the office before going home for the weekend yesterday, so that should be the end of the hangnails for now, anyway. Only one more day is left for this week, so I am feeling confident that I will be able to have another successful week.

I was successful in the second week (but didn't get to the check-in through Stickk in time, so it was reported unsuccessful automatically), and so far have been successful in the third week. Letting a couple coworkers in on the project has been very helpful, and in particular having the clipper, as ragged edges seems to be a very strong cue for me to bite my nails - once I've gotten them smoothed out, there is no desire to bite. We'll see if I can keep it up for the end of this week to make two successful weeks.

I bit my nails on the very first day of the contract! I was so disappointed that I messed up so fast, but I haven't done it since then, so I'm feeling better about it now. After thinking about it, I have been biting my nails since I was very young (my mother said I started biting my nails when my father accidentally cut one of my nails too close when I was a preschooler, and it bled), and except for a few brief times that I stopped (working at a pet store - I was too grossed out by the idea of putting my hands anywhere near my face after cleaning animal cages; before my wedding when I wanted nice pictures of our rings), haven't been able to quit biting them for almost 30 years, and I typically do it without thinking about it.
I realized that I needed to recruit a couple of coworkers to help me monitor myself at work, since I didn’t even realize I was biting my nails until my husband pointed it out, so I got a couple work friends to help. I also realized that I hadn’t put any polish on yet, which has been a decent deterrent for me in the past, so I got that done right after. Keeping a clipper with me has been helpful, since my hands get very dry from constant hand sanitizer at work, and I get a lot of hangnails and dry cuticles, so if I have the clipper, I can remove those with the clipper before it creates a problem for me with the contract.
As far as the consequences, I did not get my gift card last week, although this week I think I will since there’s only one more day and I’ve been doing fine so far. The first week, the consequence was supposed to be that I would be cleaning the litterbox and taking out the garbage everyday (my husband usually takes care of those chores), which was difficult, not because I would forget or didn’t want to do it, but because my husband did it before I got home for the first couple days. He said he forgot that I was supposed to do it. We extended the consequence days to compensate for it. Also, there will be no massage at the end, as a result of biting my nails, but I can still earn a bunch of gift cards for shopping, which is a huge incentive for me, since we put ourselves on a budget a couple months ago, and I haven’t done much shopping for things that aren’t essential lately.
