Two failures in a row. As I foreshadowed in the previous post, I succumbed to a gradual decline back into bad habits. Sure I would be in bed by 11, but then I could read or use my phone which lost me sleep. This gradually accumulated until one weekend where I had a big sleep to catch up on the deficit, and going to bed at eleven would have meant the day was a complete waste...

Things aren't that bad. The Stickk contract has mostly worked, and moving forward I have agreed with my referee that sneaky cheating is not allowed (onus is on me to admit to it). This habit has been going on for a very long time so I shouldn't expect to break it immediately - I feel optimistic.

Unsurprisingly, it's going well. I make better use of my day because I've had enough sleep, and I spend less time doing pointless activities because that's all I would do after 11pm.

Initially I felt physically and mentally better, however now I just feel normal. I think this could be why I've failed to stick to a sensible bedtime in the past: sleep isn't something you notice if you're doing it right, so after the initial noticeable improvement has passed there's no obvious incentive to stick to it. This results in a gradual decline into bad habits until things are noticeably bad again.

The stickk system is working great. The money is part of it, but it's mostly the accountability.
