| This week I was able to complete 5 days of Portuguese lessons where I earned 50XP. Several of the days, I continued the lessons even after I had earned the desired amount of points. As this week was not as busy as the previous one, I felt as if I had more time to devote to this commitment. I have even found that when I realize I did not practice on any given day, I felt guilty and thought that I should have made it more of a priority. As I have progressed through this commitment project, I have found that this is something I enjoy and wish I would have started practicing and learning Portuguese earlier. My husband and other family have noticed that I am understanding more and have been trying to speak more when were are all together and Portuguese is the main language being spoken. Even though I have been trying to speak more, I find that I get hung up on sentence structure and trying to make sure I use the correct tense, etc. and it has ultimately limited my speaking abilities. I definitely will continue to practice and to use the app as it has been a fun tool for me to use. I am also very excited that I have successfully completed my goal and am looking forward to spending some time relaxing at the beach once the summer semester is complete. | |

| This week was difficult and I was extremely busy, however I did find some time to complete my goal. I was able to find 15 minutes of down time early in the week and then again yesterday morning. While I have still been motivated by the trip I had put into the contract, I seem to be more motivated by things in my everyday life. For example, my mother in law called me since my husband wasn't answering his phone and it was a challenge to figure out and communicate exactly what was going on. I understand the majority of what is being said when Portuguese is spoken but I have a very hard time speaking and finding the words to respond. Also, this week a family friend had come to the clinic with her son for an evaluation. They are also Brazilian and have limited English. The young boy only understands Portuguese and will not respond when someone is speaking English. This made me want to learn Portuguese even more as I want to be able to help others who may need more assistance due to a language barrier. Plus if I could learn more Portuguese, I could possibly provide therapy/services to the boy and help him adjust as he gets ready to go to school and so on. Overall, I feel that I am doing well and have been learning helpful vocabulary. I feel that as I advance through the app, I will be able to pick up on more conversational speaking as it will start to go through verbs and the different tenses. I am definitely looking forward to reaching my goal and spending a relaxing day at the beach! | |
