2)Offer to be designated driver once or twice a week and stick to it.
3)Track the amount of alcohol I drink using an app or tracker

Having discovered a fantastic no alcohol Prosecco, that actually tastes like normal Prosecco, I've been more inclined to have more alcohol-free days - 4 in fact. Terry has also discovered some great low/no alcohol beers which he's really taken to, so he's driven when we've been out socially. I have yet to muster the courage to take my own drink to a social gathering, as I'm concerned what people will think if they've gone to the trouble and expense of purchasing drinks they think I like. Maybe I need to work on reducing this concern going forward.

As for not sabotaging myself, I have been very mindful of stepping back from the "fray"when my highly opinionated and loud family get together and have found that to be very rewarding.

A pretty good week all round. Terry and I have been experimenting with various non-alcohol or low-alcohol beers and wines/fizz and have found some we like so that has meant several alcohol-free days, which I have been logging. I did have a few drinks on Thursday, when Terry and I went over to Newport Pagnell to drop off some PommyGranites posters to the British Legion but I logged those and felt ok.

Yesterday was my brother-in-law's birthday so it was a family lunch at The Swan in Olney with my sister watching everything I did and expecting me to drink with her and Mum. Fortunately, my meditation plan of 10 minutes Daily Calm app a day is now starting to pay-off and I was incredibly mindful of not getting involved in other people's discussions so I felt good about myself, relaxed and there were no outbursts, arguments or snappiness. Result!

So here are my scores for the week:

This week I have had 5 alcohol-free days and Terry and are experimenting to find no-alcohol or very-low alcohol beers and wines that can take the place of the drinks we normally have, so that's been interesting and feels good. I haven;t been tracking my alcohol intake, though, simply because I haven't had any, but, perhaps I should just do it to reward myself.

I did have a few drinks at my brother's birthday celebrations yesterday and almost let myself down when my Dad flew into a rage with Tim, mu youngest nephew, for only paying for what he had at the meal. My Dad was so cross that Tim was "stingey" and was really rude to him and to Charles, my older nephew, for being a "sponger" - so both boys were upselt! I tried to reason with Dad but got nowhere, which made me see red a bit. However, (I hope) I kept my dignity and didn't go too ballistic at him. Anyway, the upshot was, it all blew over, and we had a lovely afternoon, at Mum and Dad's, after we got back from the meal.

So, here are my scores:

Oh Ali, I'm so sorry to read that you haven't been successful this week but I still maintain that you are SO hard on yourself. The only thing I can say is that, somehow, you probably need to find out what triggers the sudden fall from the path. Could it be the way you're feeling, is it a release, does it make you feel happy - but for how long? Good luck in the coming week.

Well done Ali. Really proud of you. I have one observation though: you're really good at having alcohol-free days when you don't go out but, when you do go out you are tempted to have a drink because Terry is happy to drive. Maybe try a bit harder here.

Good work this week Ali. Staying off the alcohol could be a really good thing for you. However, if you look at the week just gone, you didn't go out socially so the opportunity to drink too much didn't really present itself. Just be mindful of this.
