Well, I’m about halfway through this book, but considering it’s still a workday and that I’m a slow reader, I’m going to go ahead and throw in the towel. There’s just no way I’m going to get it read today with all the other things I have to do. I did learn a few invaluable lessons when it comes to setting goals for books, though: 1. Break down the book to make it easier to read. I’m reading another book one chapter per week and it’s worked out okay, but I couldn’t do it with this one because it’s a rental that’s due today. Unfortunately, just making a goal to finish a book by such-and-such date was a little too vague for me, I think. 2. Don’t make goals with rental books. It usually takes me a while to read a book, especially if I’m only partially interested in it. I think 20-30 days wasn’t quite enough time for a book this long. Only make this commitment with books you can keep a long time, or you buy. 3. Make sure the book is something you’re really interested in. I have a tendency to rent or buy books that I want to read, but not always something I’m really passionate about. I can finish books a lot quicker and easier if I have a vested interest in them. I need to choose my books a bit more carefully. 4. Only read one book at a time. I think trying to juggle reading several books at once is a bit arduous and distracting. I won’t put another book on here until I’m done with DTS. So, that’s it. I do want to finish reading “Mastery”, but I’ll keep renting it out and do it in my own time. I guess I owe an anti-charity $30, but that’s a lesson learned, I guess. In the meantime, I do have other art-related goals I’d like to add to StickK, and maybe a weight loss goal or two. We’ll just have to see... |
