Yesterday I went grocery shopping with a deck and pen in my pocket and today I passed through the mall with them, too. I feel silly typing this as a great achievement, but since I failed asking people to amaze them taking a step back, so I can have a courage to step forward once again might be the way. |

I worked for 2 hours today.
I reject My CUA tricks. Most of them feel hollow: Opener (God of the Game), Build (Brothers in Bond and Sight, Sound, Sense) feel like commercial tricks which would work because of 1) the visual, fast-paced skill and magic (opener), 2) connection you build with Spectator (BB) and the lots of fun, suspense and skill of SSS. But they feel hollow inside when I look past the superficial benefits of doing them. I created them and wanted to like them, but it saddens me that they don't feel like what I want to do.
Build (Alien Hand Syndrome, Picasso's Aces, i.e. a Center Deal Demo) have more heart as they share my dedication to the craft of Sleight of Hand and bend the truth slightly. The closer Mustafa's Poker Deal (Darwin's PD with Second dealing) has similar potential: "first major cheating move I learn to gain the respect of some of the best card experts in the world", which is true (and also be able to cheat if need be...). These 3 tricks have more potential, but since they come from within they feel weak. I feel more confident when I do Jason's tricks since his image in my mind is of a badass card expert.
I might integrate my tricks I created and feel have heart into the CUA, but that poses problems when performing with magicians in the audience due to fear of them lifting the tricks...
For now I just reject having "My CUA". It feels too experimental and unstable, because they are my own creations. Alien Hand Syndrome, Picasso's Aces and Mustafa's Poker Deal are potential add-ons to the Rotation of tricks in the CUA.
I wanted to make it clear as to why I won't be doing My CUA work this week. |
