This week was a huge improvement from the set back last week. I barely picked at my cuticles this week - maybe a handful of times. I believe the textured sand polish has helped to distract my hands to pick at that (especially when it began to chip) and run my fingers over the texture rather than pick at the cuticles. I began this goal for a behavior change project for a psychology class I was taking. At the end of each week, I would post how the week went. I believe this project helped increase my awareness consciously and unconsciously of how much I picked. At the end of it all, I occasionally pick but my cuticles and nail beds look healthier and I am less self-conscious of them. By painting my nails and cutting the cuticles when I notice free skin, I have decreased the amount of times I pick my cuticles and have increased the strength and overall look of my nails and cuticles. I hope these tricks and not picking will carry on into the future especially in stressful and high anxiety situations. I hope this will help motivate me to accomplish difficult personal goals in the future since I was able to almost completely eliminate this habit I have had most of my life. I will continue to improve and make sure this habit will not pick up again to where it once was. |

This week was a step back compared to last week. However, I am still doing better than week one. Keeping nail clippers on hand helps to decrease the amount of times I pick by not allowing loose skin around the cuticles to pick at. Also, when I do catch myself picking at the cuticle, I am able to cut that skin I picked at to stop myself and decrease my temptation to continue picking. So far this is the only method that has worked and I have kept up with. Painting my nails with a sand texture has also helped so my hands are occupied touching that texture than picking at the cuticles. I am hoping next week is better and to keep up the work so that by August, I don't pick my cuticles at all. |

So far, this commitment is successful and leading toward the end goal to completely quit biting and picking my cuticles. This week, I started strong but had a rough day Thursday. However, I am back on track today and hope to keep the momentum going into the weekend and next week. I have decreased the amount of picking this week to an average of a few times a day! The rock thing I only attempted once this week with little help. I have increased cutting the skin around my cuticles to decrease the chances and ability to pick, which has added to the success of this week. Hope next week is another improvement step in the right direction and eventually leads to not picking at all! |

This last week showed a series of ups and downs. Started the beginning of the week strong by being busy but Tuesday was a big step down from Monday. As the week progressed, there was an increase in progress. Hoping to find more ways to stay motivated and stop picking and biting cuticles. A new method instead of using a stress ball is carrying a stone in my pocket to run my fingers over when I get the "itch" to pick. This will be easier to carry a stone in my pocket than a stress ball and easier to clean if it gets dirty. Next step, finding a stone! |
