Final Thoughts:

There were only 2 tournaments during the RYL Challenge and I entered both of them.

This was hands down one of my favorite goals as well as one that took me most out of my comfort zone (outside of starting a business) and I'm so glad I pushed myself to join them! This has been a very rewarding goal and the meta community that has formed for these tourneys has been nothing short of awesome! Everyone has been so encouraging and engaging in the community that I hope these continue and find a home at the Dojo. I've loved listening to everyone's track and seeing how people interpreted the concepts and how creative they were at adapting to the rules of each one.

I was pretty nervous on the first one because I had previously never put out anything for anyone else to listen to and this forced me to do that. I also banged my head against the first round, trying to make something work that just didn't so I scrapped it and started over with only 5 days left. Had to work quickly to get my song entered.

The tournaments forced me to work in different ways and I came up with one I never would have otherwise. I wrote my favorite song so far because of the last one (biomes and ecosystems). I even got second place in the community vote on that one! Didn't really expect that with all the great songs that got entered in the tourneys so I was very honored to say the least!

I'm so grateful to be part of this awesome and welcoming community and glad I stretched myself to enter this. I finished 2 songs because of these and learned multiple new techniques that I have been consistently using since.

Seems like there may not be another sparring tourney during this challenge but cyphers got opened up so I started working on cypher 31 by Shadowstar. Made a template and laid down a couple of daily beats as idea starters. I'll pick my favorite on about a week and decide which one to take all the way.

Listened again on headphones. It was a very tough call for me between ChefWamp and DJKO since I felt like they both hit the heart of the challenge the best and made me feel like I was in their chosen biomes. The flavor of both of their tracks was awesome.

DJKOs track really felt like the desert with the wind and snake sounds. I love the arp pluck because it felt like someone was actually playing a joshua tree (in my mind at least lol).

Ultimately I ended up going with ChefWamp because the tribal vox and swampy sounds and ear candy bits put it over the top for me.

Listened to everyone's submission once. Also listened to the mixtape Chefwamp made. I've narrowed it down but everyone really brought it this month! I'm going to listen again through headphones and put in my vote in the next couple of days.
